Some are learning to deliver pizzas, others to save lives: the trends in the robot world.

Fleets of robots on four wheels ready to deliver our takeaways on behalf of major chains, 100% driverless buses and robot doctors ready to fix our next appointment in the most suitable department: the robots are coming but which sectors will be affected? Let’s take a look.

The pizza delivery boy’s days are numbered
Two food chains, Just Eat and Domino’s, have already launched partnerships with Starship Technologies to test robots for the home delivery of takeaway meals. Already used in some European, Australian and American cities, these little robots are designed to move around independently and are able to find the correct address thanks to special cameras and sensors.

Steering wheels and pedals soon to be a thing of the past?
It is no secret that carmakers are experimenting with increasingly efficient autonomous solutions for the cars of tomorrow. In the meantime, many cities are already making driverless vehicles available to the public that are able to get around in total safety.

Robot Doctors
Bots that enable us to make an appointment with the most suitable consultant in just a few minutes, but also robot doctors that are able to look after our family, dispensing advice and medicine. An example? Pillo, the robot doctor looking for funding on Indiegogo.

Robots for military combat
The Northrop Grumman Remotec products are good examples. The company began working on this type of technology 20 years ago, creating machines able to move radioactive material, dispose bombs and shoot back at people opening fire without being damaged. Today these robots are able to cut the explosive belts of terrorists, communicate with hostages, lift a person of average weight and much more besides.
