Electric air taxis: 90 million euros helps German start-up Lilium Jet take off

Vertical take-off and landing electric air taxis. Is it a dream? Probably not, given the 90 million euros of funding recently allocated to German start-up Lilium Jet’s ambitious project, which already plans to involve a team of 75 people. So, what are we talking about?

A new transport frontier. The new development phase for a self-propelled prototype capable of transporting at least 5 people and reaching speeds of 300 km/h is on its way. Lilium Jet hope to solve traffic congestion problems in cities:

“We want to be the company that allows everybody to take a jet instead of a car and arrive at their destination five times faster. There will be an app and from day one people will be able to book the jet as a service”, Daniel Wiegand, Lilium CEO and co-founder, explained to TechCrunch.

There’s still a long way to go, but a test flight in April 2017 certainly impressed investors, giving the green light for work to continue. We’ll see what happens next.
